Love for a Reason; Let the Reason be Love.

I wanted to write a story about love.

But then I was stuck at the first sentence because writing about love is emotionally involving, something I find tasking.

Earlier this week, I lost a colleague at work. A tall cool guy. He loved to laugh, a lot. He did not talk much but would be pleasant if you engaged him in a conversation. Never much of a conversation starter. He collapsed while jogging. A fit guy, he always walked home. Low fat diet, vegetable lover. Again, he loved to laugh. This is the paradox of life. That one dies while working to stay healthy. Death is mean, we try to avoid it and it lies at the very path we are sure it can't be on, shamelessly waiting. His time was a week to Valentines day. May he rest in Peace.

We make plans for this big day; hotel bookings, office deliveries and pleasant surprises for the big day but what will really matter at the end are the moments we had. Here and now is all we have, all we can be sure of. The future is great for dreams but today is a perfect day to love.

The purpose of love is to love for a reason. That you may buy her that rose, open that door, write her a love note and call her at work because you miss her.
You may not be the kind of guy to bring flowers everyday and say "I love you" in many fancy ways, but if you love for a reason and that reason is love, your smile should brighten up her mood just like a blooming rose would.Your simple ways would intrigue her .

Love is not romance. Love is friendship. Love is the smile, the glow in his eyes. The way he inspires you. The way he resists to smile at your stupid jokes because he wants to be serious around you when you are discussion serious matters. Love is wishing them well, much more than you wish for yourself. Love is not jealous I guess that is how Solomon was able to keep 700 hundred wives and 300 hundred concubines. He told them love is not jealous and they lived happily ever after. (Do not quote me though).

Life is too short to love for the show. If you love for something; seasons end, looks fade, feelings disappear, money is superficial and luxury never satisfying.

Love today, love now its all we are sure about. Love for a reason; let the reason be love.

All Good Things to the Left

As I sat right next
He stared, perplexed
Eyes all wet
Life can make you its pet
Situations make you turn left
After all good things have left

He had his hands cuffed
Ego slapped
He hoped situations would be turned
I looked at him and turned
I looked left
All good things seemed to have left

Yes he sat on my right
Said he got into a fight
He was only going through the plight
Of fighting a good fight
When for the dead he was left
And all good things seemed to have left

He always earned his daily bread
In harsh struggles as he was bred
But as the argument bred
The governments’ hand fled
And landed him almost dead
In blood drenched

They said he was a hooligan
Who was almost gunned down
Up and down the reporters ran
They reported a recovered gun
The news bulletin had to run

He was just a good gunner
A daily bread earner
Struggling to keep the burner
But the tunnel was getting darker
Bad times lasted longer

And there he sat looking left
Heart full of contempt
He turned and stared to the left
At the only beautiful thing left
As all good things seemed to have left

A Book for Life.

Life is like a book, you can’t keep reading the same chapter
no matter how much you enjoyed the last chatter,
you got to look at the page there after.
And keep the mojo to the last chapter.
Some pages are just for banter,
You got to be the master.

Life is like a book, you write your own.
Each day is a blank page, make it worth a pawn.
It will not be understandable to many, its yours to own.
Your dream to reach, success to achieve, your pain to moan.
Make it count, you are destined for a greatness you’ll own.

Live the life of a book reader, open up your mind.
Love book lovers, the best insights you will find.
Fall in love in a book store, it will spin your mind.
Book an appointment with a nerd, pick his mind.
Stay young, age doesn't, matter if you don’t mind.

A good book will haunt you at night
It will give you potential and insight.
Until you have reached the height
Of greatness despite the plight.
Then you’ll have won the fight.

Life is a book, read it, write it, live it then leave it.

#TBT

Got this from my blog archives…………from Sep 2011. Enjoy

1  Be unorthodox

Take the course opposite to custom
You will almost do well

Think different......If you follow the crowd,
the place you will most likely end up at is the exit.

Stop bending to the demands of the social pressure
at the expense of your uniqueness
Let your heart drive you
Not public opinion

Take the road less traveled....
Find success beyond your wildest dreams.

Read every day what  no one else is reading...
Think every day what no one else is thinking...
It’s bad for the mind to always be a part of unanimity.

It’s easy for the world to live after our own..
but the great man is the one who...
In the midst of a crowd ...

Keeps with perfect sweetness
The independent solitude

Be bold,
Be real,
Be Unorthodox.

Sunkissed

He was the first person she talked to on campus, they met on the first day. Two confused souls, in a land far from the known. They did not give their meeting a deep thought. She wanted to know where mattresses were being issued. It was getting late and this side of the Sahara was a bit chilly. Actually cold compared to the mountain slopes they both hailed from. Though they did not know they were from the same area, it was obvious to both of them that none of them had experienced this kind of weather before this day. He was a gentle man, this dude, he handed her his jacket and introduced himself. His name is Duke and he had a killer smile.

In unknown territories, your only friend is always your best friend before time and tides throw more wonderful people at your feet. This however depends on whether you stay on the shore line, for waves know boundaries. The two did not love the shoreline so much, they wanted to be solitary beings, they spent the next two hours together, sited outside on the basket ball pitch, sharing a snugly blanket and sipping on coffee to beat the cold. This was such a good way to say "hello Campus". They watched the sun set into the hills far away, it slowly blushed as it hid its face into the Chyulu Hills and left its beautiful rays  caressing the hilltops and the land. This was undoubtedly beautiful, they would not resist a selfie in this natural backdrop.

He had a dream about her that night. This damsel was sure a beauty. He had found a good thing. He decided not to fall in love though, campus is a rich environment, there must be hundreds of other beautiful girls. In campus, the classes were never that serious, it was a good easy life, he realized. The girls, were also very pretty. Duke just realized how much it pays to work hard in high school. Campus is a little heaven. These girls were like fast food; so appealing, so irresistible and available at every corner. It would take the hand of the Lord to resist all these temptations.

Ohh how good it is to pass your exams, Duke thought again. Sunset was always a sight to behold, and what is nature watch if you have no one special to share it with? For the first three months in this little heaven, Duke always watched sunset with his best friend, a treasured soul. It was not always sunny, but the moment always took their breath away.

Shelter For My Soul

She looked forward to evenings with baited breadth. She loved how the sun kissed the hills and imagined just how Duke's dark skin would taste on her lips under the sun. It would probably melt like dark chocolate. The orange sun rays warmed her back, his hands tightly wrapped round her waist. She imagined how strong his grip would be if they kissed. He had such strong muscles. His hugs ware always warm. It was the furthest they had ever traveled down this friendship road. As she sat there, she felt his right hand grasp her left, and firmly squeezed it, like he meant to say something with so much weight. Something stronger than friendship.

With his left hand, he held her chin up and looked deep into her eyes, he had decided to make this evening special. Tears welled up in her eyes, was what she had always wished for about to happen? Her face turned pink, like it was sun kissed. Her heart was racing and her palms were sweaty. Under the rays of the sun, Duke was the hottest guy alive, at that very moment, she was spell bound.

Her phone rung, it was her mother, she had missed another call from her earlier, so she had to take this one. " Hi mum" she said frantically. After exchanging pleasantries, her mother told her that she was coming to visit her the next day and they were coming with her aunt Njeri. She had not met Aunt Njeri in years!! This was good news, " ooh wow" she said. "Yes" said the mum, "We are actually coming to introduce you to your cousin Njuguna" she added. " Which Njuguna?" she asked. " He is in your campus too. We thought its not good to introduce you two on phone. You only met when you were little kids. His name is Duke Njuguna, do you know students from the Law Faculty?" Asked the mum.

Robert Frost

I have realized that when I have a really heavy issue at heart, am not able to write it in prose.

A poem works much better. I have been quiet trying to twist a story but i have realized that I cannot. We shall surely have untold stories. Those which we can only type with our eyes closed and talk with out moving our lips. The very deep stories whose listening can only be done with ears blocked.

I have therefore resolved to have a poetic week, probably month. This has also not helped much, I shall not write this story. It will die inside me, very sad a thing.

I have  been reading much of Maya Angelou as she still is such an iconic poet. May her words still rise, that is my all time favorite by her.

Through my poetic mood, I have stumbled on a poem I fell in love with back in form one when  I started discovering the real literature. I love it so much Id read it every so often and I think I wrote a few replies to it. I just that I was not so keen with keeping my write ups back then. This poem is like an audit point in life. What if you one of us, did not take this road? So intriguing, I had to share it with you.

Its by Robert Frost, enjoy;

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
